Over the past 12 years, our players have achieved remarkable success, including earning titles like World Bronze Medalist, Pan-American Champion, North American Champion, National Champion, and California State Champion. Our students have attained prestigious titles such as FIDE Master, Woman FIDE Master, Woman Candidate Master, and National Master and have represented the U.S. in World Youth and World Cadet Championships as official delegates.
This success is a testament to our commitment to quality teaching and innovative methods. With FIDE Trainer’s Seminar Instructor and National Coach Kiki Chen leading our dedicated coaching team, we continue to grow and improve alongside our students. - Morning Session: 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM (Pleasanton)
- Afternoon Session: 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM (Fremont)
- Rating Groups: Players will be grouped by rating levels.
- Time Control: G/5 +3 (5 minutes per game with a 3-second increment per move).
- Rounds: A minimum of four rounds will be played, with additional rounds if time permits

KLC OTB Tournament Details
USCF 1000+ section opens to all youth players.
Under 1000 section opens to KLC students only.
Tournament Overview:
The Friday Night OTB tournament is a rated event for KLC students, offering a competitive yet welcoming atmosphere for all participants.
Sections:
Open Section: Open to all players who meet the required rating (min USCF 1000). (Separate registration link)
Other Sections: Reserved for current and former KLC students only. Walk-ins are not permitted. (Separate registration link)
Maximum Capacity:
Limited seats—please register early to secure your spot.
Parental Guidelines:
Parents are kindly asked to drop off and pick up their children. Parents are not allowed to remain during the event. Thank you for your understanding.

Day: Fridays
Time: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM (Check-in by 5:15 PM)
Entry Fee:
$50 per tournament (Non-refundable and non-transferable)
No-Show Policy:
Players who fail to attend without prior notification will be suspended from future KLC tournaments for two months.
Time Control:
G/30; d5 (Game in 30 minutes with a 5-second delay. Full game may last up to 1 hour.)
Rounds:
Each tournament consists of three rounds. All rounds will use the same time control (G/30; d5).
The Beginner Section may have four rounds if time allows.
Schedule:
Round 1: Starts at approximately 5:30 PM. Please arrive by 5:15 PM.
Subsequent Rounds: Begin on a rolling schedule after the previous round finishes in each section.
End Time: Around 8:15 PM (Open Section may finish closer to 8:30 PM).
Pick-up Time: 8:15 PM (Open Section 8:30PM).
Bye Request:
One half-point bye is available upon request. Please submit the request at least one day prior to the tournament.
Rating:
Players are placed in sections and paired based on their current USCF rating.
Players may not "play up" to a stronger section.
Estimated ratings will be assigned by the tournament director for players without a USCF rating or those with online ratings.
Current US Chess Membership is required to participate.

Community Conduct Policy:
Be kind, helpful, and forgiving.
Avoid abusive, threatening, or discriminatory behavior.
Refrain from trolling, hijacking threads, or posting irrelevant content.
Do not discuss illegal activities.
Sportsmanship Policy:
Show respect to opponents.
Do not rush opponents during their turn.
Avoid harassment, accusations, or offensive language.
Fair Play Policy:
Do not accept assistance from others during the game.
Do not manipulate ratings or match outcomes.
Respect the game and avoid interfering with others' gameplay.
How to Show Good Sportsmanship:
Be supportive and positive.
Practice respect and self-control.
Be willing to learn and improve.

- The maximum capacity for this event is 60 players. It's advisable to register early to secure your spot, as registrations will be closed once the maximum capacity is reached.
- Please must check the "Entry List" and make sure you can find your name on it before coming. If you can't find your name there that means your payment doesn't go through and registration is not completed. "Entry List" button is next to "Register".
- Please make sure your USCF ID is active.
Day & Time:
Monthly In-Person USCF-rated OTB tournament on Friday, 5:30 pm - 8:30pm.
Tournament will start check in at 5:15, players please must arrive by 5:15pm and check in at the front door. For pick up, parents please arrive by 8:25pm at the door. We will call your child's name when you are here. If you have another person to pick up your child, you must send notice to KLC in advance.
No-show penalty: Any player who is a no-show without any notification will be suspended from KLC tournament for two months.
Entry Fee: $50 per tournament; Non-refundable. Please login in your PayPal account and pay. If you can't find your name on the Entry list, that means your payment doesn't go through.

Sections: Three sections based on the rating.
Food and Water: You can bring your own nut free snack, water is ok, no drink.

Each tournament will have three rounds. All rounds will have the same time control (G/30; d5 ). (Beginner section will play four rounds if time allows it.)
Schedule:
Round 1 starts at around 5:30 PM on Friday. Please arrive by 5:15PM.
Consecutive rounds are on a so-called rolling schedule: after all games are finished in a section in a round, pairings will be posted and the next round will start in 5-10 minutes.
Expected end-time around 8:30PM.
Bye request: One half-point bye is available upon request and must be requested AT LEAST 1 DAY before the tournament.
Rating:
Monthly USCF supplemental rating is used to place players in section and to pair players. No playing up to the stronger section is allowed. The tournament director reserves the right to assign an estimated rating to players with non-USCF or online ratings.
The tournament will be USCF-rated. Current US Chess Membership is required to participate in the event.
All US Chess tournament rules apply. The tournament director's decisions are final.
Notation:
Notation required if your rating is 300+ (Coach Kiki requirement).

Only US Chess approved electronic notation devices are allowed.

Equipment: KLC provides chess boards, sets and clocks. You don't need to bring a pencil. You can bring your scorebook, scoresheets and pencils will also be available onsite.
Tiebreakers:
When individual scores are equal, the tournament will follow the tie-break order listed in the US Chess Scholastic Regulations in order to determine awards:
1) Modified Median
2) Median
3) Solkoff
